Be Our Guest

Every summer family from out of town come to visit us here Sacramento. With having a guest bedroom to spare for our once-in-awhile, guests I took it up to my inner interior designer to add more decorative details to the room. I took inspiration from my past Airbnb visits from Beverly Hills and San Francisco. A little bit of some high end inspo, with some budget-friendly-smart shopping items.

If you’re a fellow reader, I’m sure you’ll remember the gold table I was crushing over with my 90210 apartment home. It was a CB2 Gold Bistro Table in stationed in the kitchen nook. That week in Los Angeles, I made that table my work table! If new to the blog, you can check that blog post  | HERE |

The above table, can be purchased here at CB2

Watermark Brass Bistro Table ($249)

The patio/ bistro table gives any living space that modern feel perfect to sit one and a laptop, or two, to enjoy a cup of tea or a meal! From the smooth surface, to sleep style, you can sit comfortably anywhere!! Mix match with chic bistro metal seats, or even a wooden chair!! This table in my June Airbnb was my pop-up kitchen nook office. I fell in love with it, onced I arrived in LA, and I still can’t stop thinking about it.

SO! Enough with the drooling. CB2 priced this brass bistro at almost $250! YIKES! A hell-to-the-NO. Here’s what I did in my guest bedroom to create this similar look.

For starters, you always need to start with the big ticket items. For this living space being a guest bedroom, we obviously needed a bed. Now, to be honest, we only get about 4-5 visitors that sleepover during the entire year, so investing in a fancy bed wasn’t needed. The husband and I purchase this simple pullout bed from IKEA. (Not pictured – due to real life problems | My laundry was all over the daybed, which I wasn’t about to fold, to take a picture of. Sorry. Not sorry.)

Here’s the pullout sleeper sofa we purchased from IKEA | HIMMENE |

HIMMENE Sleeper sofa, Lofallet beige

Cost: $449.00

This sofa converts into a spacious bed quickly and easily. When you pull the underframe upwards, it folds down the backseat and creates a Full to almost Queen sized bed.

Now, that we have the main bed situated, everything else was pretty much easy to add. A lot of wall space was needing decor, but also functional items for my guests. Here’s was I’ve added on my walls:

  • Circle Nautical Wooden Frame Mirror | Clearance Find @Target ($11.98)
  • Chalk Sign | Marshall’s ($8)
  • Faux Greenery | Michael’s Craft Store & DIY
  • Wicker Basket Plates | ALL Thrifted ($1-$2 Each)
  • Ornate Brass Decorative Piece | Thrifted ($3)

Creating budget friend living spaces may sound difficult to many, but when you block out the distractions of “high end,” and quite expense items from West Elm to even some Target brands such as Nate Berkins, I can understand blowing your budget may come easy. BUT no fear here!! Tiffany got’s you!!! Keeping an eye out for clearance items, and checking your local thrift store will always have items for you. All you have to do is be open to the hunt!!! I promise you, being fabulously frugal isn’t scary. It’s a wonderful way of saving!!!!

Stay tuned for upcoming posts on inexpensive ideas during vacations and get-aways for the family! I’ve have tons of experience on saving and finding great alternatives that work for the family and of course, your wallet!!

Tassel Tutorial

Let’s continue adding more to the tapestry!! To add more of a detailed finish on our tapestry, we’d need a nice accessory that creates movement. Usually, tapestries  are multi-colored & multi-textured. Creating texture, movement, and more color will emphasize the placemat, I mean our tapestry. ;P

Featuring 4 different color of embroidery floss, adding them as tassels, will even create more texture and movement to our piece. This DIY is perfect for a nursery, bedroom, or any living space! Let’s start making our tassels!!

What You’ll Need:

  • Embroidery Floss
I had four colors, all picked from the same color theme of the placemat.
  • Scissors (Sharp fine ones!)
  • Sewing kit (Needle and thread)
  • Thread ( same colors you’re planning to use for your tassels.
  • Square cardboard.
Whatever the size, your square will be, will be the size of your tassel.
    I used a size of 2″ x 2″inch.

Where To Buy:

Creating tassels, can be very time consuming, so put on your favorite show on Netflix, and have a crafter-noon! I tried my very best capturing each step while creating my tassel, so please refer to the photos in case my step-by-step directions seem unclear. Here we go!

Directions:

  1. Take your embroidery floss and place against the cardboard square, leaving an 1.5″inch out.
  2. Wrap a few times around the square. I wrapped mine exactly 20 times.
  3. Clip the rest of the floss off, and tie at the top.
  4. Cut a 5-6″inch long floss, off the same color and tie in the middle of one side of the cardboard square.
This will be the top of the tassel.
  5. Push the ream of embroidery floss off the cardboard square.
  6. Pull the hanging exposed top of the tie up, and cut ream on the opposite end.
  7. Cutting another strand of floss, tie together the entire group of floss, creating the top “poof” portion of the tassel.
  8. Double/triple knot the tie, and trim off excess floss.
  9. Trim floss down, to desired length.
  10. REPEAT steps over, until you have enough tassels for your tapestry.
I made 11 tassels for tapestry, using 4 different colors.
  11. Once all tassel’s have been made, style your tassels in a cool color pattern that ties in with your placemat.
  12. Sew on tassels on bottom edge of placemat. Secure, and you’re done!!

This easy and affordable wall tapestry brings a small touch of bold colors throughout. Subtle, simple, and boho all at the same time!! Hung on a wooden dowel, its true beauty comes in its simplicity of color yet variety of colors and textures! This once placemat, now turned tapestry is sure to add charm to any room!!

I had such a great time creating this, I actually want to make more to scatter around the home, and also start making a few for special holidays and occasions!! Stay tuned for more DIYs later this summer! Happy June everyone!!

Placemat Tapestry

This week, I’ll be crushing through a series of wall art ideas I’ve created, or have been inspired by other creators via Pinterest or YouTube. From sharing easy home decor posts focusing on filling up our walls with inexpensive, budget friendly decor! We all have been seeing this great wall tapestries on Pinterest, as well as in the department store from Target, World Market to UrbanOutfitters. These wall tapestries bring in the Bohemian vibe into any home.

Create a focal point above your bed with a hippie bedcover mandala/boho tapestry to a, relaxedwoven hanging piece that warms up a wall. I personally, love geometric designs with tassels, and tribal global prints. These neutral designs, and tribal chic trends add great accents to any hallway or living space.

In this post, I’ll create the EASIEST tribal tapestry that looks to chic, your friends will be asking where you purchased it from!!!! This “hand made wall art,” will be perfect looking on walls with your Interior. Easy to hang on walls too!!

What You’ll Need:

  • Decorative Placemat.
(I purchased mine at Target) Many stores have fantastic prints you can use, especially for the summer. But overall, any seasonal printed fabric works for a project like this.
  • Twine/Or necklace chain
  • Hot Glue (Optional for those who aren’t into sewing).
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Wooden Rectangular Dowel
  • Hacksaw
  • Hammer/Nails
  • Sandpaper
  • Embroidery Floss

Directions:

This is so easy, I’m sure many of you will read over my instructions, by just looking at my photos. BUT, for those of you who are technical learners in reading things (like my husband), here it is:

  1. Position your placemat long-sided down.  Place the wooden dowel rod above the top of the placemat, and measure the exact place where you’d like to cut.
  2. Using a hack saw, I purchased mine at WalMart for only $4, carefully saw your wooden dowel, and sand down the freshly cut edge.
  3. Using your hammer and a few nails, nail in your placement to the back of wooden dowel.
If you don’t have a hammer and nail, you can easily just hot glue the placemat to your wooden dowel.
  4. Lastly, take your necklace chain, and nail it in, and the ends of the wooden dowel. I used slim nail, with a fairly larger head, in order to keep the chain in place.**Make sure there’s enough in length to support the tapestry to be hung on any wall.**

And viola!! Short, quick and painless DIY thats totally trendy and looks just like the ones from the Nate Berkins Collection at Target or straight from UrbanOutfitters!!!!!! Stay tuned for the embroidery floss tassel tutorial up next, to add more to this easy tapestry!!!!

Hexagon Hooks

Add a graphic element to a space with this urban style minr Hexagon Hook set from Target! The perfect look is super inexpensive located at the DollarSpot of Target. I love mixing design styles, from mid-century to bohemian chic.

The hooks were a set of 4, with a copper hook in the middle. There were also others from white and gray as well, which looked so sleek and modern, but I ended up going for the mint green (You know I love me some soft mint).

I knew these hooks would be so functional in my home, but at the time of purchase, I didn’t know perfect spot for them just yet. Once I took them home and opened up the package, I looked around my home, and eyed my front door entry way.

As we’re currently renting at the time, I want to refrain from drilling many holes within the walls, especially the doors. In order to stick the hooks on a flat wall surface, I plan to use these wall Command Hooks (shown above), which are a perfect sticky adhesive for anything to hand on the wall. After much thought, I found the perfect spot for the hooks! My garage door at the front entry way!

In the top left photo of the collage, it shows a picture of my front door next to the garage door (with yellow wreath). This is the main entry where the family enter and exit within our household. Notice the usage of using the color yellow? Hehehe…From the wreath, to opening the garage door seeing our vintage locker.

Check out my past post about decorating with yellow. HERE.

Once I was ready to apply the hooks using the Common strips, be sure to follow the instructions thoroughly.

  1. Start with wiping down the surface with and hold rag, to remove any dirt, grease, oil, and dust.
  2. Apply your Command strips on your hook and firmly apply on surface.
  3. Wait 1 whole house before adding weight or hanging anything on the hooks.

Using these decorative hexagon hooks, are obviously intended for purpose. As we all have our busy lives, we all need as many container storage spots, surfaces and basket bins to get our lives organized. Hooks, are used to hang coats and jackets, and other clothing items. But as for me coming in and out the door constantly throughout the day, I love hanging our reusable shopping bags, busy bags, and also errand bands (things that don’t fit in my purse.)

Are you a family with constant movement in the household and strive off of an organized system, from storage lockers, hooks, basket bins, and a whiteboard schedule? That’s us!! Stay tuned as I continue to post more little home improvement posts, both that are decorative, and functional!!

Halloween Haul

Yah girl is back on YouTube! I guess it’s the Gemini in me, but after working long and hard on my blog, I need another artistic and creative medium in sharing my content. I love love being expressive, and very impulsive as when I feel the need to create I do it, then there.

Having two different sides of my personality and you will never be sure with what you’ll get, so I guess that’s why I have two social media platforms to express myself. As at times I can be sociable, and communicative ready for fun white hitting the record button, I can ALSO be very serious with my content and indecisive on where to share it.

So after an afternoon having a DOUBLE Dirty Chai, I then, I remembered my YouTube!! Seriously folks, I go through deep waves of creative projects where I concentrate so hard on particular platform, and can’t maintain the rest of the social media branches.

Here, I’d like to share through VIDEO my Halloween CLEARANCE HAUL:

Budget shopping is certainly a way of life for me. If it’s a decorative home decor item in my home, it was without a doubt on sale when I purchased it.

cozyhome

I’ve noticed I don’t provide enough style ideas on my blog, so I want to start now! Here are a few Fall Decorating Ideas (Collected from Pinterest/HGTV/HouseBeautiful/ and some of my favorite YouTube Budget Stylists) The list below is my spin-off of interior styling to make it work on a budget, and not to break your wallet before the Holidays! Let’s get started:

  1. Swap In Seasonal Greenery
The branches pick up warm colors of the space. Go outside, and collect leaves with your kids, create a fun and cool fall leaf garland!
  2. Build Up The Fire
A fireplace, is def a focal point to any room. Warm it up at night, with throw blankets & lots and lots of piled on pillows
  3. Add A Cozy Throw
Throw blankets are a massive MUST HAVE during the fall season. Check out your local Ross/Marshall’s/TJMaxx for discounted and awesome cozy throws!
  4. Hang A Wreath
HomeGoods or DIY!!!!!! That wreath already starts at the door, letting anyone know walking by, you’re ready for fall!!
  5. Style Your Porch
Restyle your outdoor space. Out with the summer patio look, and in with the “mountain range/Tahoe retreat.” Check out Craigslist for patio furniture local neighbors are getting rig of. Or KMart/WalMart to Target — Check out their summer clearance, and restyle main pieces of patio furniture adding in warm weathered textures, and prints!
  6. Tablescape
Your dinning room should have that statement piece. My current dinning table has wooden candlestick holders (Threshold Target Brand) purchased from Goodwill! Style them with a long table runner, warm candles, and some pumpkins!
  7. Attention Nook
Aside from your dinning area, don’t forget to add the cozy love to your breakfast nook. Fall is about gathering together. Be sure to give additional table scape details to that breakfast nook. From Placemats, to autumn neutral florals (From Trader Joes) in a thrifted vase!
  8. Bath Mat
Most people wouldn’t think about redecorating the bathrooms. But I do!! From the bath mat, towels, to the decorative pieces to use in the powder room. Continue on the look of fall ALL throughout the your home!
  9. Layer LOTS of Rugs
Too many carpets? There’s no such thing. It’s an open invitation to put your feet up.
  10. Reading Corner
Fall is the time I read the most books! Designate an area for quite reading. Curl up with a glass of wine and you won’t miss the warm weather quite so much.
  11. Let There Be Light
Plug in some extra lamps!! This is something new I’ve been learning. With the shorter days, you’ll want to add brighter lighting to your favorite spaces. Nothing better than that soft glow sprinkled around your living space.
  12. Rethink The Dining Room
For a more relaxed feel, add pillows to stiff-backed chairs. I’ve purchased 2 chairs from the Goodwill Outlet for ($12 for the pair!) After repainting them,my DIY mind, wants to repaint them just for the cold season! (Possibly a splash of plum or a dark peacock green jade.)

DIY Berry Basket Gift

Shortly after my birthday, the school year ends along with little league season. After 20+ games, and practices, the teams usually have their end of season party. During this time the players receive their awards, and coaches and team parents say their thank you’s to everyone who were involved. This season, I was able to hit it off with my older son’s team mom Staci. A Hawaii native, and currently a stay-at-home mom just like me, with two boys, we were able to totally hit if off from the start!

It’s was such a pleasure to tag-team with her as she and I did the creative aspect for our little league team. From setting up really early for Spirit day, making Easter treats, and little goody bags for the players, I love giving and creating cutesy quaint gifts for the players to enjoy! Really, it was a joy to make them, and also a joy to know that you all loved them!

She was such an awesome team mom, I just want to thank her for an awesome season! Seriously, she was ne of the best, most organized Team Mom’s e v e r. Especially handing it all with her 2 year old at your hip (At every game, and every practice!) Her structured order, systemized ways, were obviously effective and well received with the players, coaches, as well the parents. She definitely make it look like nothing! Purely effortless!! As a mom, she’s inspired me to become more involved in my children’s extra curricular activities! I hope in the near future I can step out of my comfort zone to become a team mom just like her!!!

Team Mom Berry Basket

This can also be applied to a Class Mom, staff volunteer, Office gift, or Teacher gift!

-EOS Lotion

Everything above was purchased at Target ($1.99-$3.99 Each)

Later Added, but not shown….

-Bath & Body Works Anti-Bacterial PocketBac

-Bath & Body Works Mini Candle

BerryBasket

Directions For Prepping Your Berry Basket:

1.) Fill your berry basket with the decorative shred. (I personally love paper shred. It’s the perfect filler for any gift basket, and is every easy to style with.)

2.) Place your gift items inside, with larger (taller) items set in the back. Style from back to front.

Example: I placed the tissue and KIND bar towards the back, and placed my anti-bacterial, lip balm, and smaller gifts towards the front.

3.) With your Chalkboard garden sign, write the names of the special people you will be presenting these gifts to.

There were multiple moms that helped contribute to the baseball season for my son’s Minor B team. From score keeper, dugout mom, and team mom, all these ladies do it for their children. They not only care for their own children, but for the rest of the boys on the team.

ChalkSign

So, I had these chalk pens for awhile, which I purchased for a wedding last March. They were a set of 4, with white, pink, orange, and purple. It was such a coincidence that those colors besides the white perfectly tied in with the berry basket gift idea. Don’t you love happy little accidents?!?! (It’s like finding cash in your clothes!! A total art supply SCORE!)

Now, I’m a perfectionist. And I am no professional wedding calligrapher, but I did attend art school for a bit and know my way around photoshop and have many resources for many, many, many fonts.  So, writing the font for the chalksign was quite easy for me to duplicate. Nowadays, I’ve seen many creatives going into the calligraphy category of the wedding and event styling industry. Pretty cool. But definitely not for me. I’ve done multiple chalkboard signs for weddings, and events, but I’d never consider doing invites. Hell no. I have better things to do…And I’m not looking to get carpal tunnel, or tendonitis in my wrist. HA!

Have you worked with berry baskets before? I’ve seen them so many times, but never really thought of styling with them, or had the need. Using them as team mom gifts, was the perfect opportunity for me to used them! Now, I might just buy me a porcelain berry basket!!! (I smell a impulse buy coming up!!)

Smiles
