DIY Easter Eggs

Easter is among us, as from mid-February to April, mom’s shop at Target, and grab any cutesy, dollar-friendly, Easter item they can find. This year, I am proud to say I didn’t fall into the Target trap (as I only purchased 2 things this entire Easter season at Targte! This Easter, I ended up DIYing the most adorable Easter eggs using craft eggs from Walmart!!!!

Walmart has been a favorite place for me to shop at lately. Although, I can save the 5% using my Target RedCard, and also use Target Cartwheel, I’ve found many of my go-to’s currently at Walmart, and also without walking out purchasing things out of impulse.

We can all agree that Walmart isn’t the fanciest place to shop, as the crowds can attract all sorts of people with different backgrounds, shapes and sizes, but if you put that aside, you know you can get a few more things at Walmart for cheaper, and also save a whole-lot more other than falling into that Target trance.

This April, I was able to score some adorable DIY Craft Eggs from Walmart for $2 ($1.98 to be exact!)  The craft egg selection was huge this year! From chalk craft eggs, pastel chalk, to confetti filled Easter eggs. I purchased the plain eggs as I knew I wanted to paint a few to add a touch of my own personal crafty style in my home.

All the supplies I already had, but if you don’t have these art supplies, these are things you’ll be able to purchase all at Walmart in their craft section, for really inexpensive prices too!! ($1-$3each)

What You’ll Need:

  • Easter Craft Eggs
  • Acrylic Craft Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Paint Pallet

Directions:

There’s really no hard-fine rules to this craft, because it’s all on your creative style! I just went with a few solid painted eggs, and added some spring flowers. Others, I did stripes, polka-dots, and other jazzy Springtime prints!

Floral Prints:

Above is a closeup on how I painted my eggs with my spring flowers. The top picture shows step-by-step exactly how I create them!

Helpful tip:

It’s all about blending and overlapping colors!!!!!!

Aren’t these eggs the cutest?!?! I seriously was in the zone while making these (along with binge watching the Gilmore Girls on Netflix!) When complete with your crafty eggs, style them in an egg carton filled with Easter egg grass, or paper filling. I had some from the DollarTree, and also purchased my egg carton from Target (The one other Easter item I purchased from Target all month!)

Happy Easter everyone!

The Pacific Northwest

PacNorthWest

Last week, we took the kids up to the Pacific NorthWest! We had made arrangements to stay at two beautiful homes in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. We hit the open road early Friday morning around 6am, and reached our first destination in Portland, Oregon at 3pm!!

Portland Is Happening Now….
We stayed in a neighborhood called Sullivan’s Gulch, which is located in the Northeast of Portland. It’s bordered by the Lloyd, Kerns, Hollywood, Grant Park, Laurelhurst, and Irvington neighborhoods. Sullivan’s Gulch is conveniently located on the bus lines, and within a short distance to the MAX – the light rail station at the Lloyd Center Mall. Before arriving to our location I already new our rental home was is a mixed urban and residential area that was located within walking distance to dining, shopping, and other entertainment. All that was carefully factored in – while searching for a place to stay with my two boys. The well-established community has a mix of older East Portland homes, with mid-sized to larger family homes on the streets with mature trees! (Forever homes, I call it. Forever, because young families would never want to leave. Its perfect for those with the urban appetite TOPPED WITH old mature trees and beautifully updated & charming old homes.)

During our stay, some days we drove, some days we look the MAX light trail trains, and others we walked the entire time. The best ways to get the entire feel of an unknown city is always taking public transportation or walking. As we walked and explored different parts of Portland, we would pass lovely vintage apartments, local neighborhood eateries, cute boutique pop-up shops, and my favorite the food carts!!

Food Carts In PDX
Something you see everywhere while in Portland are food carts! Not food trucks, food carts!!! Scattered around the city, they are all organized in “pods.” Lots with more than a few carts. Many of them could be fond between Downtown Portland and the Pearl District. One of my favorite food carts from downtown, was fond along SW Alder St. and SW 10th Ave, right near the City Target. It was called, Korean Twist, Imagine a bulgogi burrito with kimchi. Yes!! It’s a Korean based food card, fused with a Mexican twist!!! Oh my lanta……I want to tell you more about the fantastic food I tried in PDX, but I’ll just have to save it for another post!! I promise!!!!!!

Seattle:Metronatural
About 3 hours North from Portland is Seattle, Washington. Known for the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Gum Wall, Great Wheel,  this years NFL SuperBowl finalist and also coffee! Big companies such as Boeing and Microsoft are established in Seattle, and larger companies such as Amazon and the Alibaba Group (Chinese e-commerce company “Chinese Amazon) will also be settling in Seattle.

Besides, the coffee, rain, and big businesses, in Seattle; Seattle also has amazing mountains and nature. Green spaces and parks are all located around the city. Old forests, beaches, and meadows. Mt. Rainer is visible right on the horizon. With a surplus amount of evergreen trees the entire area stays green all year round. Can you believe that?! It makes driving along the highway quite enjoyable really. I never understood why people would say the death rate in Seattle is so high, because of the rain and gloomy weather. Such a myth. The fresh clean air, green all around you, is only possible because of the rain! There’s a reason Seattle locals are some of the most active people in the U.S. – it’s because even when is there rain, going outside is still amazing!

Theres so much to tell and share about the Pacific NorthWest, but I’d hate to keep writing about it! The more the write about it on how much I like it, the more excited I get, and make more mistakes and typos. Let me just share a few photos instead!! Enjoy!

Our favorite coffee shop in Portland was ‘The Stark location of Stumptown Coffee Roasters, located in the lobby of the ACE Hotel. During our afternoon of shopping and eating downtown, we’d always stop by Stumptown and enjoy our coffee fix in the lobby at ACE.

Don’t forget to take pictures in their photo-booth!!
Public Market Center

Here’s the famous Public Market Center in Seattle. The Pike Place Market is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront, and is the oldest continuously operated public farmers’ markets in the United States.

Fresh fruits, and locally grown veggies and florals all come in Pike Place Market everyday. Open from 9A to 6P this place is filled with food tours, tourists from all over the world, and locals just picking up their local groceries!

NewsStand

Let me end my little PNW trip with this candid Derrick took of my at the NewsStand. Seriously, a lot of though trying to pick the right magnet to place on fridge.

How was your Spring Break? Have you ever been to Portland and Seattle? What are your favorite spots to visit when in town? Let me know! We plan to revisit VERY soon!!

Spring Break Body: Featuring TheChicSite

With Spring break around the corner, pressures of having the bikini body are in the air. Target is already selling their summer swim suits, which by the way are totally adorable!) While currently working out with my personal trainer 3 times a week, and running everyday, my goals are coming closer, with losing weight, and dropping my body fat percentage! Just seeing my trainer already 4 times this month I’ve dropped 4 lbs and 10% body fat! That’s significantly faster than my first contract I had with him back in 2013!!

This time around my goals have become way more full-grown. Instead of searching for that bikini body, I’m in search of endurance, and strength in my knees and ankles to secure me from injury during my runs. Over the time of being a mom the past 7 in a half years, I’ve never really had goals to have a bikini body. The stretch marks from pregnancy have also numbed me from that goal. It was never really a priority, yet, I didn’t really have any big problem with it. Not until I saw Rachel from The Chic Site.

Here’s her Bikini Picture that she had posted on her FB Fan page just last week. I love how she exposed her mom body, with confidence, a huge smile, while projecting complete happiness and joy, being proud of her body. Check out what she said along with the photo…

TheChicSite“I have stretch marks and I wear a bikini. I have a belly that’s permanently flabby from carrying three giant babies and I wear a bikini. My belly button is saggy… (which is something I didn’t even know was possible before!!) and I wear a bikini. I wear a bikini because I’m proud of this body and every mark on it. Those marks prove that I was blessed enough to carry my babies and that flabby tummy means I worked hard to lose what weight I could. I wear a bikini because the only man who’s opinion matters knows what I went through to look this way. That same man says he’s never seen anything sexier than my body, marks and all. They aren’t scars ladies, they’re stripes and you’ve earned them. Flaunt that body with pride!” #HollisHoliday

Rachel mentions in her blog she was considering cropping out her stomach in her Cancun vacation pic before posting it, but she’s never seen another mom on social media show off her stretch marks… I love it. All of it! Being a mother with stretch marks, with permanent “flab,” after carrying babies is something to be proud of!! Here’s a video she just posted just today on the reaction of her bikini pic:

I admire that she was a brave mom to flaunt her mommy tummy in a bikini. Its something that should be know more in the internet world. With mom bloggers, IG fitness freaks, and everything else in social media, its certainly a topic that should be applauded. I salute you Rachel!!

Are you a mommy with stretch marks and a flabby tummy, working hard to tone it? Let me know your journey, and how you were able to slim it down! Let’s support one another and hit the ground running showing awareness in how beautiful the mother body can be, and how hard it is to work it off!
