Birthday Love

Last Friday on my birthday, two of my girlfriends treated me out to a cute little British Tea room in San Francisco, called LoveJoy’s Tea Room. Located right along Church St. in Noe Valley, this is a perfect place for a girls day out! Their scones and sandwiches are delightful. Their cute little tea sandwiches and scones are neatly arranged and displayed on plated tiers, served with delicious butter and jam that add that perfect touch to your toasty fresh scone. Warm scones, tasty tea sandwiches and a bottomless pot of tea await you at LoveJoy’s.

As we were hosted to our reserved spot, located right at the front bench window, the seats were decorated with a number of various vintage pillows and cushions;I noticed a bouquet of flowers sitting on our table. Instinctively, before enjoying the beautiful bouquet I searched for a card, or any tag. FarmGirlFlowers, of San Francisco is were it was delivered from, and ordered by my younger brother! As I’m tearing up enjoying the beautiful gift arrangement of wildflowers, peonies, pink/lavender calla lilies, roses, and cabbage life blooms – I could only send positive energy and vibes to people all around me. The energy was definitely real. I was completely touched by the beautiful burlap wrapped gift.

To my brother Justin, if you’re reading this. Thank you so much for the special delivery. It really put a huge smile on my face.

Tea Table

Below, we ordered 3 variations of the Queen’s Tea (Tea Service). It includes your choice of two sandwiches, served with cabbage salad in a caraway cream dressing, organic spring greens, a scone with preserves and devon cream, a crumpet with meyer lemon curd, fresh fruit, a petit four and tea tea biscuit.

Shared between the three of us, we were table to try 6 of their sandwiches, which were: the classic cucumber & cream cheese, chicken-apple-walnut salad, smoked turkey & dijon, cream cheese & green apple, salmon mousse (which I didn’t try- due to sea food allergies), and the Bay shrimp & mayonnaise chicken asparagus. All were absolutely delicious!!

TeaRoom

Our selection of teas were Earl Grey, China Rose Petal and  Passion Fruit. Each of us had out own tea pot served to us, as well as a cute tea cup placed on two saucers, a provided strainer, milk and cream.

As my friends and I enjoyed our afternoon tea, we discussed upcoming plans for the weekend. Since, I’ve been living and breathing fitness and working out – the girls agreed to join me for a Sunday morning hike. We ended our late afternoon enjoying the sweet treats on chocolate bon bons, and adoring the cute quaint decor of the tea room, we topped it with photos taken at every corner of the tea room, and outside too! Literally, the tea room is filled with tea pots, lace vintage doilies, porcelain figurines, and amazing soft prints and textures complimented with distressed mix matched furniture.

As simple as the my birthday was spent, I couldn’t have spent it any other way! Short, sweet, and surrounded by good vibes, a good atmosphere, a delightful food and tea. It doesn’t take much for me to smile, and its the littlest details that make me swoon.

LoveJoys

Nitro Trail 10K @ Point Pinole

Last Saturday was my first ever 10K race at Point Pinole Regional Park. Home of gunpowder and dynamite manufacturers for almost 100 years, Point Pinole became part of the East Bay Regional Park District in the 1970s. With panoramic views of the bay, wildflowers, over 100 species of bird and eucalyptus woodlands (originally planted to buffer potential explosions!), Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Park is truly the hidden gem of the East Bay. If you have never been there before, you are in for a surprise. (Read more info about Point Pinole Nitro Race here from Brazen Racing)

During the months of April and May, I’ve been consistently training for 5K & 10K runs. I would run in the mornings right after I drop off my son to school, and jog with the jogging stroller pushing my 4year old. I would also run in the evenings, by myself as the boys stayed home with daddy and work on homework — which is such a great routine for us as family! And also squeeze in Sunday early morning runs and hikes with girlfriend-moms (who are on the same track to a healthy lifestyle).

Running is my main source of cardio for weight loss. I also have registered myself for a couple of runs throughout the year. To give myself an event to look forward too, as to keeping myself honest, and stay true to my fitness goals. This was apart of my early goals back in early February when I decided to start a new healthy lifestyle, that includes not only a fit a healthy physical body; but mind, body and soul. Getting back in touch with my trainer, somehow running into him at the utter most perfect time in my life, I took it as a sign that I needed him the most, to get me back on track.

During my race, I was surprised on how well I was able to conserve my energy and not blow it by sprinting the first few miles. Since this was my first 10K trail race, I didn’t really know what to expect. I did my little research of checking the course maps (Nitro10kMap,) and searching up the elevation, but you never really know how its going to be. By all means, I have been training but going around my local lake 3 times (6miles), gets boring, and I tend to not push myself as hard, as if I was at a real run. Friends and family told me to keep my time under just about an hour…..Silly me, I was off my 8 minutes!

If you look above at my results, I was going at a 11.02 pace! That’s a minute slower than my usual! I shouldn’t have jogged so casually!! Yes, I know its only a difference of a few minutes, but my goal was to at least keep it at that hour mark!! At my last run, The Mermaid Run, I went at a speed of 10.02. EXACTLY 1 minute more. !#$%^# This only pushes me to do better at my next run (which I’m literally going to schedule today! Sometime this month!) and never slack off, and take my runs so casually.

Average Time Marks

The average time for runners to complete a 10K race generally falls between 50-70 minutes. The median time for American 10K racers in 2012 was 55:52 for men and 1:04:37 for women, according to Running USA. A 1:02 finish in a 10K race, for example, requires a pace of 10 minutes per mile. Extremely fit runners can run 7-minute miles or quicker, while weekend joggers might fall in the 10- to 14-minute range for their miles. Overall, I am very happy with the outcome of my first ever 10K. My goals from here are to run 2 more 10Ks, then strictly train for Half Marathons, bleeding into 2016 attempting my first ever full marathon. Come back for more updates, on my #JourneyTo30, to check up on my journey through health and fitness, and also Happy 1st Day of June! It’s my birthday month/week – and I also end tail end of a 30 Day Transformation diet I’ve been trying out…..So far: I’m feeling great!!!!!!

Run The Lake

Every morning I’ve programmed myself to run the lake near my house. I live literally 5minutes away from the fantastic central park right in the heart of Fremont. Like I’ve mentioned before, I live right at the edge of the Silicon Valley, a suburb residential area, within commuting distance to major cities here in the Bay Area, both San Jose & San Francisco -which I love, love love!!! So being right in the center of many cities makes living in Fremont so great!

Each morning, after dropping my older son to school, I head straight towards central park. Lake Elizabeth, located in Fremont, California, is a man made 83-acre lake. When at average capacity, water rises to a depth of about seven feet, and is exactly 2 miles all around. With many fields, and play structures around the park, with neighboring city buildings like the police department, animal shelter, and also main library. I seriously fall in love with Fremont every morning as I run the lake.

Tristan is his jogging stroller, enjoying the lake view.

Jeep Overland Limited Jogging Stroller with Front Fixed Wheel

My jogging stroller is probably seeing its finest days right now. I purchased it, just about 3 years ago on Craigslist from a couple who was relocating their family to Brazil. They sold me to be brand new for only $75 (Original: $185) . After using it a couple times on trails, while Tristan was only a year old, I gave up my healthly lifestyle by getting lazy. (Boo.) Now, older, wiser, and with a 4 year old 33lb pre-schooler, I am making up for the lost time!! Pushing the jogging stroller with Tristan is do difficult to do! No lies! I love the wonderful capability of having it hold my stuff, and all the features including:

  • Essential jogging features: front fixed wheel, air filled tires, safety tether, reflectors, super grip and adjustable handle
  • iBaby sound system plays music for both parent and baby
  • Features include: speed and distance odometer, hand brake, large storage basket, parent tray with 2 cup holders and compartment music player or other essential items
  • Multi-position reclining seat with 5-point safety harness accommodates child to 45 lbs
  • Stroller stands upright when folded and you can roll the stroller folded

I cannot express how happy I’ve been lately with my new lifestyle. Everything in my life all has a balance, from the kids school schedule, to me in the kitchen, and eating right, all thanks to running into my trainer at our local Safeway. Bye bye sugary boba drinks and milk teas! I don’t need you!!!

Happy Training! Getting fit, and being happy while doing it!!
