After traveling to cool cities like Seattle, Portland, and Cincinnati, I’ve grown to appreciate coffee in a different light. The next city I’d love to visit is Birmingham as I’ve heard they have a blossoming coffee culture. I hear that the coffee machines they use are of the highest quality. I’m no coffee connoisseur, but Derrick is. As a family, we’ve visited so many different coffee shops, and coffee roasters, its hard to pick a favorite. There are many ways of reviewing a coffee roaster. From their black coffee alone to lattes, then to their amazing teas. I LOVE coffee shops that welcome families with young children. There are so many different ways for me to categorize all my favorite coffee shops just in Sacramento alone!!! I love coffee so much that I think it is now the perfect time to invest in my very own coffee machine. I know for sure that I would use it everyday. I mean, it would mean not visiting a coffee shop everyday, but I guess I would be saving more money. So, it all works out. The problem I have is that I don’t know which machine to go for. As there are so many on the market, this may take some time. I came across a company like Identifyr, where I think my decision won’t be as hard as I first thought. I feel like whenever you are struggling on making a choice, review sites are the place to be. Once I get my coffee machine, I don’t think I would have to leave the house ever again! I can finally make the perfect cup of coffee in the comfort of my own home.
Usually, when I’m at a new coffee shop, I’ll take a sip off of Derrick’s (who usually get’s it black) I’ll search for the deep rich dark flavors. I try to identify the flavor-notes of the beans, but my tastes buds aren’t as developed as some coffee drinkers. As we’ve settled into Sacramento, there have been many favorite coffee shops checked out so far –just within the past 8 months. Many, are a local franchises within Sacramento, which is a great quality of the city –having variety of different local roasters, that have grown their original roots here.
In this post, I’ll cover two of the most popular coffee shops in Sacramento. I’ll continue to cover more Sacramento coffee roasters in another post, as I have to honor these two shops alone. Now, if you’re a huge coffee advocate, or just enjoy sweet lattes, or just looking to a coffee shop to visit within the Sacramento area, this is a post for you!! I present to you, two of Sacramento’s most popular Coffee Roasters; Temple Coffee & Tea & Insight Coffee Roasters.
During early January of this year, while searching for homes in Sacramento, Derrick and I would come every weekend to check out Open Houses in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area. After a couple of appointments, we would need a caffeinated boost. One of our very first Sacramento Coffee Roasters visits was at Temple Coffee & Tea. After Yelping, we had arrived at the downtown location, located on 9th St & J.
Temple is totally the kind of coffeeshop I’d plant myself at daily. All of their locations are spacious, clean, modern, and has a robust menu of beverage and pastry offerings, even for the non-coffee drinkers.

Another lovely location in Sacramento is the K St. location located in Midtown. This is another location that we love going to because of the high modern wooden ceilings, fancy new coffee equipment, and a floor made entirely of pennies. Yes pennies. All pennies. This is Temple’s newest location –which once we moved to Sacramento, it practically opened up for us! HA! Most weekends, you can find my family walking around Midtown. Usually, we’re checkout out Midtown’s Farmers Market, or daddy is down the block from Temple getting his hair cut. The kids love it, I love it, we love it, the community loves it.
Their espresso is rich, complex, creamy and delicious, balanced acidity, with hits of cherries and chocolate undertones. I recently learnt after reading this article on espresso making, that there’s a fine art to the perfect espresso!
Vanilla Latte: It was the smoothest coffee I’ve ever tried…. Forget Starbucks! The flavor was so pure and the flavor was creamy but not overwhelming.
This new location opened up recently on the busy intersection of K & 22nd.
Midtown Temple coffee roasters on 22 & K is a must. It has plenty of seating inside and out, and I have always found a place to sit, but it’s always busy.
The other most popular coffee shop in Sacramento would be Insight Coffee Roasters. One location is located Downtown along 8th &S St. This location is one of the first original Insight. The friendly baristas tell me what is awesome at the moment and they have yet to disappoint. This location is one of my dear favorites to Sacramento, because it’s awesome location and layout. Every Saturday morning we’ve gone to this particular Insight location, I ALWAYS receive great vibes from the staff, and also the customers. They are o-so welcoming towards families with children, and usually you’ll see people from all sorts. Young families, friends meeting up, couples reading, and other’s working. Usually, at other coffee shops, such as the modern Temple Coffee & Tea, their locations can be a little “heads-down,” work flow. If you get what I mean.
Insight’s ambiance is chill. A good place to study alone, the seating isn’t the comfiest but it fits the look they’re going for. Very industrial, warm hues, brown accents, and a wonderful glass window to sit on vintage theatre seats to “people watch.” A major major PLUS to me, is Southside Park is just down the street to this Insight location.
The industrial accents takes clues from old factories and industrial spaces. Above, my son sits in what it seems to be an old school wooden/metal seat, or theatre seat.
Insight Coffee Roasters | 1615 16th St., Midtown
The location above, is the 16th St. Location. Maybe, one of the newest locations in Sacramento. Sitting between P & Q Streets, across the way from Fremont Park. Take your children to Insights, grab a coffee, and walk across the street to Fremont Park (which is gated and enclosed), and enjoy the sunlight! This location, is simple, clean, open space, like every other, but provides a little bit more seating for everybody.
Insight Coffee Roasters | 1014 10th St. Downtown
The next Insight location, I’d like to cover, is one of the latest location’s I’ve visited so far in Sacramento. This is the newest addition for downtown workers seeking caffeine. I love the baristas here. It’s so low key, warm, and inviting atmosphere where they chat with you and genuinely seem to want to have the conversation.
Being a fan of the Insight’s located at 8th & S Streets since this is one of my go-to stops.
Hipster vibe? Check.
Friendly, cool baristas? Check.
